The mission of the Building Department is to provide quality services to the community in a manner that is comprehensive, efficient, knowledgeable and helpful. The Building Department promotes and insures new development in Sitka is constructed according to minimum legal standards of safety and that existing public and commercial structures are maintained in a safe condition.
- Promote and protect public well being by assuring safe building design, construction, operation, and maintenance.
- Administer the responsibilities of the State Fire Marshal, including pre-construction plan reviews of all public and commercial buildings and routine fire and life safety inspections of non-residential existing structures.
- Provide a technical resource for professionals and homeowners in building design, construction, and operation.
- Provide in-house technical expertise on building related matters.

Sprinkler Waiver Committee Meeting
Members of the Sprinkler Waiver Committee will meet Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 10 AM in the Building Department office, Room 201 of City Hall, located at 100 Lincoln Street. The purpose of the meeting will be to consider a sprinkler variance request for a storage building located near Harrigan Centennial Hall at 330 Harbor Drive, Sitka, Alaska.
