The Public Works Staff and MRV Consultants held a series of public meetings at 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 July 13 and July 14 to present the “Needs List” and recommended “Work Items”. The current funding from the State grants total $6 million dollars with $4 million allocated to the Centennial Hall and 2 million allocated to the Crescent Harbor parking lot. The majority of the needs identified by the public and Centennial Hall and parking lot users are within the current funding. Those items that will not move forward due the costs exceeding the available funding are a second floor on the Centennial Hall and a multi story parking garage within the parking lot.
The improvements that will move forward are noted in detail in the report (click here to view the report) and are in four general categories. The first is expanding the building to the front, sides or rear. However the expansion will not degrade the view outside from the stage. The second area is upgrading the heating and cooling system, new lighting, windows, communication and other interior upgrades. The third area is the parking lot which needs to be reconfigured for both the Crescent Harbor and Centennial Hall users. The traffic circulation with attention to the tourism buses will be address to facilitate both summer and winter use. The final area to be addressed is the Museum. The Museum may stay in Centennial Hall however it may also be paired with the new Library or a new Visitor Center.
The next step in the project is to appoint a Feasibility Committee (similar to the Library Feasibility Committee) and begin the development of conceptual designs and costs. The Feasibility Committee will evaluate the conceptual designs and recommend selected options. During this process the options will be developed and presented to the public in September through October for the public's comments and approval. The recommended options will then be presented to the Assembly for approval in November.
