Absentee and Early Voting Information

Are you unable to vote at your precinct on Election Day?

The following options are available to vote early or absentee:

  • By Mail, Fax, or Email
  • Personal Representative
  • Absentee In-Person
  • Early In-Person
  • Absentee Voting by Mail

Absentee Voting by Mail

Voters may apply to receive a ballot by mail. Applications must be received no later than September 24, 2024. Ballots will be mailed mid-September.

Vote your ballot, have your signature witnessed on the envelope, and mail it by October 1.  Your ballot envelope must be postmarked on or before midnight October 1 and received no later than October 4.

Alternatively, you may return your voted ballot in the sealed envelope to the Municipal Clerk’s Office before 5:00 p.m. Alaska Standard Time (AKST) on October 1, or to an election official before polls close on Election Day.

Absentee Voting by Fax or Electronic Transmission

By using this method to return your voted ballot, you voluntarily waive your right to a secret ballot.

Your application must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. AKST on Election Day. Return your voted ballot by fax or email to the Municipal Clerk's Office no later than 8:00 p.m. AKST on Election Day.

Absentee Voting by Personal Representative

A qualified voter who is unable to go to a polling place due to age, illness, or disability may vote a personal representative ballot. A personal representative can be anyone over 18, except:

  • A candidate for office in the election.
  • The voter's employer.
  • An agent of the voter's employer.
  • An officer or agent of the voter's union.

The personal representative picks up a ballot for you between September 16 - October 1 at Harrigan Centennial Hall in rooms 2 and 3 on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. AKST, or at your polling place on Election Day. Your personal representative will complete step one of the special needs envelope with your name, their information, and signature.

The election worker gives your personal representative the personal representative envelope, ballot, and secrecy sleeve to deliver to you to vote.

You will vote your ballot, place the ballot in the secrecy sleeve, and secure it in the special needs envelope. Then, complete step two of the special needs envelope with your information. Your personal representative will witness your signature and return your voted ballot to a voting location on or before 8:00 p.m. AKST on Election Day.

Absentee Voting In-Person

A qualified voter may apply in person for an absentee ballot at the Municipal Clerk's office in City Hall on or after the day the ballots are available, through September 15. Contact the Municipal Clerk's office for more information.

Early Voting In-Person

You may vote an early in-person ballot September 16 – October 1 at Harrigan Centennial Hall in rooms 2 and 3 on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. AKST.
