Recruitment

The City and Borough places ads in the Daily Sentinel, our local newspaper, and other state newspapers. We have all jobs and Class Specifications (job descriptions) listed on the City website: www.cityofsitka.comapplications may be printed from this site.  Jobs are also listed on Alaska's Job Bank: http://www.ajcn.state.ak.us/; with America's Job Bank http://www.ajb.org/; and with Sitka Tribe of Alaska.  Applications are available in the City and Borough Utilities Office, the local job service, or email hr@cityofsitka.org Please note: The statement of duties and examples of essential work in an advertisement are not all-inclusive nor do they supersede official Class Specifications.

Applying for positions

Applications are accepted at the City and Borough Utilities Office, 100 Lincoln Street, Room 102 or Human Resources Room 300, Sitka, Alaska, 99835. Applications may be faxed to 907-747-1846 or emailed to hr@cityofsitka.org. All applicants must complete a formal City of Sitka application form.  A resume would be a welcome addition, but cannot replace the formal application document.  Applicants must fill out the A.P.S.C. F-3 form for all positions with the Sitka Police Department in lieu of City of Sitka application form.

Applications are reviewed and compared to the Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Acceptable Experience and Training, and the Required Special Qualifications listed in the Class Specification (job description) for each position that is open.   It is the applicant's responsibility to list all related jobs, correct dates of employment, salary/wage etc.; Incomplete applications may prevent a candidate from being considered further. Be sure to place the complete job title on the application form. If applying for more than one position, a separate application is required for each.

The most qualified applicants may be invited directly to an interview process or required to participate in an exam process (i.e.: police department applicants). If an applicant needs accommodation or assistance for any of the above processes please contact Human Resources at 747-1816 or come to the Human Resources office, 3rd floor, City Hall.

Applicants should receive written notification regarding the status of their applications within two weeks of the job closing date. All applicants will be notified by mail of their status in the selection process.

Time Frame

The application process takes approximately four (4) to eight (8) weeks to complete depending upon the position.

Applicants are considered for all positions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital or veteran status, or the presence of any disability. The City and Borough of Sitka is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
