Due to the Special Municipal Election, the regular Assembly meeting originally scheduled for May 27 has been moved to May 29. Crescent Harbor Restroom Replacement

The City and Borough of Sitka, in partnership with contractors, will begin work to replace the Crescent Harbor Restroom located near the 700 block of Lincoln Street. The existing facility will be permanently closed starting Friday, May 2, to allow for its demolition. Following demolition, site preparation will take place in advance of installing a new restroom structure. The new restroom is expected to be open by the beginning of June.
More information regarding traffic and pedestrian impacts will be provided as the project progresses. We appreciate the public’s patience during this improvement project. Please contact the Public Works Department with any questions. 907.747.1804.
May 28 Special Municipal Election

A Special Municipal Election is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28. Eligible voters may choose to vote using one of these options: early voting in person at Harrigan Centennial Hall on weekdays May 13 - 27 (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and Saturdays, May 17 and 24 (9:00 a.m. to noon); absentee voting by mail, fax or email; personal representative; and in person on Election Day at Harrigan Centennial Hall from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Completed applications to vote absentee by mail must be received by the Municipal Clerk’s Office no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 21. To vote by email, voters need access to a printer and scanner. Storytime Break at the Sitka Public Library

The preschool story time program at Sitka Public Library will take a break from May 1 to May 22 to get ready for the Summer Reading Program and attend school visits. Story Time will resume on Thursday, May 29 at 10:30 am.
Preschoolers are invited to the Early Literacy Summer Reading Program kickoff party on Saturday, May 17at 10:30 sponsored by Sitka Babies and Books.

Sitka Babies and Books Color Our World Program at the Sitka Public Library

Sitka Babies and Books will celebrate the beginning of the Early Literacy Summer Reading Program with a kickoff party at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the Sitka Public Library for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. "Color Our World!" is the annual Summer Reading Program theme for all ages. During the event families may register their children up to 5 years old to enjoy the Early Literacy Summer Reading Program. The program will run through the summer until August 2. The event doesn't require pre-registration and everybody is welcome.

Regular Assembly Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in Harrigan Centennial Hall. The agenda and supporting documentation are available at https://sitka.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx, the Sitka Public Library, or by contacting the Municipal Clerk's Office at City Hall. Public comment on agenda items and “Persons to be heard” is encouraged and welcomed. Citizens may provide comments by email, in person, or by phone. Regular and special Assembly meetings are live-streamed through the City's website and YouTube channel. In addition, regular meetings are aired live on KCAW FM 104.7. City Hall HVAC Upgrade: Open During Construction

The heating and ventilation system at City Hall, located at 100 Lincoln Street, is scheduled for an upgrade. Work is expected to begin in late spring and continue through the summer. While some construction activity will occur during regular business hours, City Hall will remain open to the public throughout the project during regular hours.

Walk2Connct Free Training April 30

The City and Borough of Sitka Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with the Sitka Recreation Foundation, hosts a Walk2Connect Leader Training on Wednesday, April 30 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Harrigan Centennial Hall, Meeting Room 2. This free training is geared towards those who are interested in leading community walking events and those who currently organize walks and hikes. The training will be taught by experts from the Walk America Project and will include creative ideas for hosting fun and engaging walks that support a variety of paces and ages. It will also cover leading walks that maximize connection among participants, as well as a technical toolkit for designing a safe walk.
While the training is free, space is limited. The first 10 participants to register will receive a walking leader kit. Registration can be found on www.recreation.cityofsitka.com.

Adult Game Nights at Sitka Public Library

Sitka Public Library and City of Sitka Parks and Recreation host free adult game nights in the Sitka Public Library Multipurpose Room from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on May 1st, May 8th, and May 15th. Games from the Sitka Public Library collection are available, but games from home are also welcome! Individuals and groups of all skill levels are welcome. Airport Hold Room Exit Modification

Beginning October 1, 2024, and continuing through late Spring of 2025, construction at the Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport will alter the exit from the passenger hold room to accommodate the installation of a jetway foundation. Passengers will no longer exit the breezeway. Instead, they will pass through a secure corridor adjacent to baggage claim to access the airfield. Please follow instructions provided by airline staff when boarding and moving onto the airfield.

Ground Loading and Unloading for Passengers at the Airport

Starting July 15, the Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport will undergo improvements affecting how passengers board and exit planes. For approximately 10 months, until late Spring 2025, passengers will embark and disembark the aircraft from the tarmac using portable stairs or ramps, as the current jet bridge will be out of service.
