Overview
The proposed Commercial Passenger Vehicle Ordinance would repeal and replace the City's existing taxicab regulations with an updated framework for commercial passenger transportation in Sitka. The proposal expands the current code to address taxis, tours, shuttles, limousines, and human-powered passenger vehicles while modernizing licensing, permitting, operational requirements, and enforcement procedures. Supporting draft regulations include the proposed taxi fare schedule and fine schedule.
Legislative Timeline

- July 2023 - Town hall held regarding commercial passenger vehicle operations.
- July 2026 - Draft CPV Ordinance, regulations, fare schedule, and fine schedule released for public review and comment.
- August 7, 2026 - Draft documents updated following initial public comment milestone.
- August 11, 2026 - First reading of the proposed ordinance by the Assembly. Postponed to November 24.
August 25, 2026 - Anticipated second reading and public hearing, unless substantial changes require additional consideration.
- October 20, 2026 -Public Discussion hosted by Assembly Members Thor Christianson and Scott Saline.
- November 24, 2026 - Anticipated Assembly meeting for reintroduction of CPV Ordinance on first reading.
- December 8, 2026 - Anticipated Assembly meeting as second reading on the ordinance.
