Election Information
The Clerk's office is responsible for supervising and running the local municipal election and assisting the State in statewide elections. The Clerk's office endeavors to conduct elections with the highest integrity possible.

October 6, 2026 - Regular Municipal Election
Polling Locations
Sitka is divided into two precincts, both located at Harrigan Centennial Hall, 330 Harbor Drive. On Election Day, polling hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Voters are reminded to bring identification (such as a driver’s license)

Absentee and Early Voting Information
Early Voting (In Person)
- Dates: September 21 – October 5

- Saturdays: September 26 & October 3, 9:00 a.m. – noon
- Location: Harrigan Centennial Hall, 330 Harbor Drive (Rooms 2 & 3)
Vote by Mail
- Apply by: September 29
- Ballots mailed mid-September
- Return your voted ballot:

- By mail (postmarked by October 6 and received by October 9), or
- In person to the Municipal Clerk’s Office by 5:00 p.m. AKST on October 6, or
- To an election official by poll closing on Election Day
Vote by Fax or Email
- Waives your right to a secret ballot
- Apply by: 5:00 p.m. AKST on Election Day
- Return ballot by: 8:00 p.m. AKST on Election Day
- Requires access to a printer and scanner (or the ability to take a clear photo)
Vote by Personal Representative
- Available if you cannot vote in person due to age, illness, or disability
- Your representative:

- Must be 18 or older
- May not be a candidate, employer, or union agent
- May pick up a ballot between September 21 and October 6 at the early voting location or at your polling place on Election Day
- Ballot must be returned by 8:00 p.m. AKST on Election Day
Absentee Voting (In Person)
- Available once ballots are received by the Municipal Clerk’s Office (typically early September) through September 18
- This option is only available to voters who are unable to vote:

- during early voting (September 21 – October 5)

Voter Registration
You can register to vote in Alaska by completing a Voter Registration Application. There are three ways to complete and turn in your application.
- Online via the Division of Elections website.
- In-person by going to the Municipal Clerk’s Office, DMV, and Legislative Information Office in Sitka.
- Print it out and mail, fax or email the completed form to the Division of Elections office.
Qualifications to vote and register in Alaska
A person may vote at any election who:
- is a citizen of the United States,
- is 18 years of age or older,
- has been a resident of the state and of the election district in which the person seeks to vote for at least 30 days immediately prior to the election,
- has registered before the election registration deadline, and
- is not registered to vote in another jurisdiction.
