Seasonal Electricity Rate Change Reminder

Published on April 09, 2026

As we move into the warmer months, a reminder that City and Borough of Sitka electricity rates change seasonally.

You may notice fluctuations in your monthly bill.

Beginning May 1, 2026, the summer rates will take effect. For residential customers, this means beginning in the first billing cycle in May, the summer rate of 21.93¢ per-kilowatt-hour (kWh) will apply. This residential rate will remain in effect through the last billing cycle in October. Winter rates will resume November 1, 2026. For a full breakdown, see SGC 15.20.020 or the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget.

Why do electric rates change seasonally?

These adjustments help save residents money by providing lower rates during the winter when electricity use is higher due to home heating. In 2025, 57% of residential power was consumed at the lower winter rate of 13.71¢/kWh, making Sitka’s weighted average residential electric rate 17.24¢ per kWh.
