Downtown Crosswalk Art Installation Scheduled
Published on July 21, 2026
The City and Borough of Sitka (CBS) would like to inform the public that volunteers from Outer Coast, in partnership with CBS, will be painting decorative crosswalk art in the downtown area on Thursday, July 23, and Friday, July 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. each day. If weather conditions prevent painting, the work will be rescheduled for Monday, July 27, and Tuesday, July 28.
The crosswalk art is part of a temporary pedestrian safety demonstration project developed through Sitka’s participation in the Walkability Action Institute. The project is designed to draw attention to existing crosswalks, increase their visibility, and encourage awareness of pedestrians in the downtown area.
CBS will provide traffic control, including signage, cones, and traffic management while volunteers complete the work. Motorists traveling along Lincoln Street should expect delays and are encouraged to use caution, watch for traffic control personnel, and follow posted directions.
