City Introduces New Scheduling Option for Moller Field Portable Pitcher's Mound
Sitka, Alaska - The City and Borough of Sitka Parks and Recreation Department is introducing a new scheduling option for user groups utilizing the portable pitcher's mound at Moller Field.
The change is intended to provide flexibility for organizations hosting baseball and softball events while ensuring the responsible use of municipal resources.
As with other Parks and Recreation facilities, user groups are responsible for event setup and configuration. User groups may continue to move and position the portable pitcher's mound themselves at no cost. Parks and Recreation is also offering an optional fee-based service for groups that would prefer City staff to handle the setup and removal.
"This new option gives user groups greater flexibility when planning events at Moller Field," said Municipal Administrator John Leach. "Organizations can continue handling mound setup themselves at no cost or choose to schedule City staff to provide that service."
User groups may choose from the following options:
Option 1: Self-Service (No Cost)
Groups may continue to move and position the mound themselves before and after their event.
Option 2: City Assistance ($200 Fee)
Groups may schedule City staff to move, position, and remove the mound. The fee helps offset the labor, mobilization, scheduling, and administrative costs associated with providing the service. The amount reflects the staff time and coordination required to support event setup and removal.
The new option was developed to provide additional flexibility for user groups while recognizing that organizations have varying staffing and personnel resources available to support their events.
To ensure adequate staffing and scheduling, requests for City assistance must be submitted at least 72 hours in advance of the event.
Reservations can be made online by visiting https://sitka.recdesk.com and selecting Facilities, or by contacting the Parks and Recreation office directly for assistance with scheduling.
For organizations choosing the self-service option, Parks and Recreation reminds users that only adults should participate in moving the mound. Youth players should not be involved in lifting or transporting the equipment. Proper lifting techniques and available carrying aids should be used.
We appreciate the cooperation of local user groups in helping maintain safe, accessible, and functional athletic facilities for the community.
