Biography
I was born in the Pacific Northwest and spent many years as a traveling musician before settling in Sitka in 1989
We bought our first home here in 1991 when interest rates were at 10% and there were four homes to choose from.
I have owned and operated a vacation rental, a beauty salon, a music studio and a long term rental . I understand the issues facing the community, and the difficulties achieving those goals. I am looking at the long game not quick answers.
I have three fine sons that proudly graduated from Sitka high school.
Part of my initial attraction to Sitka was the isolation, beauty, diverse and welcoming community. I respected that people were willing to work together and find a compromise for the benefit of everyone.
Sitka is my home by choice.
Advocacy Statement
My intention, if elected, is to ensure that there is open communication between the community and the assembly and that every voice is heard.
Not every issue is important to everyone. It is crucial that everyone have a voice in what is important to them. Everyone needs to feel recognized and acknowledged.
I want to help navigate the community in a positive direction, ensuring that we remain a real community with opportunities for our children and elders.
We need to pursue an answer to the rapidly rising cost of infrastructure and maintenance so that the expectations may be met without putting our elders in jeopardy.
We need our children to feel safe and loved.
We need to continue to explore our health care options.
We offer methadone, but, the real solution is hope and education. Without a clear future and creative solutions we will continue to struggle.
I do not have all the answers but I do have the time and energy to research the questions, try to clarify the answers, and offer suggestions that may help find a compromise we can be proud to live with.
